Maia International Comic Theater Festival

The first edition of the festival took place in 1994 and from 96 it became annual. The festival takes place in the second week of October, in Maia's Forum and adjacent spaces.

The Festival is an initiative of Maia's City Council with artistic direction, technique and production of the Teatro Art' Imagem.

Daily, for 10 days, street animation, spectacles in the Great Auditorium, with capacity for 700 places, and Coffee-Theater, for 150 people. In the weekend there are also afternoon shows for all the publics.

The comic theater in whole its dimensions and disciplines: the street theater, the pantomime, the animation, stand-up comedy, musical, the new circus, puppets, café-theatre, clown, brings to Maia's city 25 to 30 companies and over 10 thousand spectators.

In the Festival had already participated actors and companies from different regions like Spain (Galicia, Madrid, Catalonia, Lion and Basque Country), France, Czech Republic, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, England, Canada, United States, Argentina, Brazil, Cape Verde, Germany, Australia, etc, besides Portuguese companies.

This is the only theater festival exclusively dedicated to comic theatre that takes place in Portugal.
